PRODUCTION NOTES
(By Director Will Moore)
With only 19 Days of shooting, a car that wouldn't start, a camera that
broke down and held up production for 4 days, 105 degree weather, special
effects problems, no film, no food, and no money, it truly is a miracle
that we got this picture made. But we did and the results were amazing.
What follows are my personal notes that I took during the shoot. Hope
you enjoy.
08.03.03
Last day of preproduction. We found a sweet 1967 red Chevy nova. Our
film came in, our actors will be here by tonight. We've got plenty of
food, not plenty but just enough. We went and checked out Fagan's ranch,
the guy playing Maxwell, it's awesome. The crew insisted that we move,
so I caved in and said ok. Fagan's ranch has three vacant houses and
they're all clean. The refrigerator's work, we have clean water, clean
beds. Good stuff.
08.05.03
The first day of shooting went as smooth as I could have ever hoped.
We broke for lunch 30 minutes early and we wrapped after only eleven
hours of shooting. 4-year-old Rhett Hanes was the star of the day. He
plays the Roughneck's son. He is supposed to eat a candy bar after Wesley
lifts him up on the counter. At first he wouldn't take the candy bar
from Wesley (Chad), so I had Chad just hold the candy. Finally the Rhett
snatched up the candy and chowed down. By the last take his face was
covered in chocolate and when Mandy said her line, "Cute wasn't
he" Rhett burst into laughter… perfect. Second day, today,
was just the opposite. The camera jammed, and we lost film. Myself and
Jason, the DP, hauled back to base camp and changed out the roll. We
concluded that the film had either gotten too moist from the pier scene
we shot at 6am or that the claw was not working properly. To be honest
I think neither of us has a clue as to what happened. We lost about
two hours, call was at 5:30 and we didn't wrap until 8:30. The good
thing is that we got everything. I am so happy with the actors. They
are all working out great, especially Chad and Kara (Mandy). Chad has
a sensibility to him that adds so much to his character, Wesley. Kara
is so beautiful yet vulnerable and caring that she could play Mandy
in her sleep. All told we've shot about 11½ pages and used up
3 cans of film, not bad. I'm still going to need about $800 or we're
not going to have enough film to finish the shoot. I'll worry about
that tomorrow.. I'm going to bed, goodnight.
08.07.03
Yesterday, the third day of the shoot went really well. We shot all
of the open field scenes where Wesley stabs Elvis in the back and shoots
him. I got a lot of really great shots, like when Elvis walks up to
the bail of hay and when Wesley is running towards Butch and firing
his gun. For one shot I had Cody (effects) check the barrel of the 357.,
load a full flash blank and then I had Chad fire the gun directly at
the camera, it looked great. At the end of the day we did the shots
where Wesley jumps out of the truck. Since I can't afford stunt men
and because I have the same build and hair color as Chad, I got to jump
out of the moving truck. Fun stuff. Before we shot it I rehearsed the
jump several times, Matt Taylor-Gross drove and each time I tried the
jump at a faster speed. I set out two twin mattresses to pad my fall
and dragged a large tree branch in front of them to conceal the padding.
The first few rehearsals went well, 3mph, 7mph, then 13mph. I told Matt
to try 15mph, right before the jump the truck speed up to 20mph. I jump,
missed the mattresses and hyper extended my knee. I walked it off and
went through with the stunt (I decided on 13mph) but the damage was
done. Today my knee swelled to the size of a watermelon and I could
hardly walk. I had to have Jason Sherman (My DP) set up the camera and
get everything ready, then I'd come in and shoot it. I hate not being
able to set up my own shots. Another thing that went wrong is the belt
that runs from the motor to the magazine got stretched out somehow and
now it squeaks when the camera is running. We had to record a lot of
wild sound and I'm going to have a hell of a time syncing it all up.
We wrapped early because of my knee and the sound. We ordered a new
belt from a guy in LA and it should be here tomorrow. Finally, the worst
thing that happened to day is that Steve Wolf, the effects guy that
was supposed to be here flaked out on me. I worked for him for over
12 hours one day helping him tear down a dam and this is the way he
repays me, by embarrassing me in front of my cast and crew. Koula, the
production coordinator, called him 2 days ago and he confirmed that
he'd be here. I called him 6 times yesterday, finally I had Koula call
him and he answered. He told Koula that he MIGHT be here, MIGHT…
I mean the nerve of the guy. I've got actors coming in from Dallas,
Corpus, Houston, all over… and he MIGHT come in. The whole day
was planned around special effects. He never called me back. What a
bastard. I called Randy Moore, an effects guy in Austin and he said
to call him back on Sunday. I hope he works out. Anyway, we just postponed
the effects day and shot the scenes between Sheriff Tanner, Wesley,
and Mandy.. The scene where Wesley waits on the side of the road and
the car flies by and we got the shots where Wesley jogs on the gravel
road. We're going to take a day off tomorrow and wait for the belt to
come in. We'll be back on Saturday.

We went swimming. Took it easy. I iced my knee.
08.09.03
The belt came in, but that did not fix the noise problem. I am going
to have to ship the camera off to White House audio and visual in CA
to get it fixed. Everyone is getting worried that we are not going to
shoot out Chad, he has to be back in California by the 22nd. We're already
a day behind and this is going to add 2 more. 3 total days behind. We
hauled ass to office max were I had to pay for Saturday shipping, $113,
ridiculous.
08.10.03
I worked on a shot list. I iced my knee. Watched TV. Morale seems to
be low. People are eager to work.
08.11.03
HOLY CRAP! I called White House Audio and Visual to see if the camera
had made it in. It hadn't. I called airborne, gave them my tracking
number and was informed that the camera was still at Office Max. I blew
a gasket. I called and asked for the manager and let her have it. This
has to be the most incompetent thing I've ever seen. I was so angry
that I had to leave. Alyssa and I went and ate lunch so I could calm
down. We ate, quickly, and I came back. Ok, the pudding is going to
take 6-8 weeks. If the camera arrives there tomorrow, white house said
they could ship it back to us the same day. A couple members of the
cast and crew headed back to Austin to get away from the madness. The
rest of us will sit here and wait.
08.12.03
I broke down and asked my parents to help pay for the camera. My dad
said not a problem. Comin' through in a clutch. Problem is that I was
going to ask them for money to buy the extra film. Not sure what I'm
gonna do now. More story boarding. Iced my knee. Lots of sleep. Everyone
returned so we had a meeting were I assured everyone that production
would run smooth (I hope) from here on out. Everyone assured me that
they were here for me. No matter what happens, we'll get this movie
made. I have a great crew.
08.13.03
We got the camera back and today rocked. My knee feels better; the swelling
is almost all gone. We shot 8 ½ pages. I shot the scene were
Wesley kills Billy. It looked awesome, I did it all hand held to give
it more energy. Spencer (Billy) is really good. Everyone keeps coming
up to me and asking, "where'd you find this guy." I'll definitely
have to work with him again. We also shot all of the scenes between
Samantha and Wesley; they went really well. I'm so happy that Angela
turned this down because Diana (Samantha) is so good. She plays the
perfect Samantha. We're running low on film. Jason said that we've only
got 4 cans left. Not good. I only have $500 left. I was planning on
asking my parents to buy about 5 cans but I don't want to ask now since
they paid to get the camera fixed. Walter Womack plays Daniel in the
film and he has been sort of our go to guy. When we need something..
a gun, truck, location, I usually call Walter first. I broke down, mentioned
the film situation to him and asked if he knew of anyone that might
want to donate or invest. He said he'd have to get back to me.
08.14.03
Finished up the garage scene between Wesley, Billy, Sheriff Tanner,
and Henry. Fagan (Maxwell) asked if we needed anything as far as equipment,
supplies. I broke down and mentioned that we were short on film. He
asked how much we needed and I said 7 cans. He asked how much that cost
and I said about a $700. He said he'd give me an even thousand. Is this
guy serious?! My god. We shot until the sun set and then went home and
celebrated. The cast and crew are beginning to call the ranch, club
McFadden, because of the late night partying that goes on. Good fun.
We pull up Chris' Excursion, open the doors, roll down the windows,
pop in a CD, crank up the volume and dance the night away.
08.15.03
Called Randy Moore (The effects guy) again. He said that he'd have to
let me know. I really hope I can get him to come down. I really need
bullet hits to make this look realistic. Cody, my brother, drove into
town and picked up a $1000 from Fagan. Craziness. I had Koula call and
order 13 cans of film from Fuji. Perfect timing, we only had 2 ½
cans left. The camera is still running great. The DAT and the car are
another issue. The DAT continues to break down and the car usually starts
once or twice in a day but that's it. And it's not like I can keep the
car running because it overheats quickly. We've decided that the car
is the most temperamental actor working on the movie.
08.16.03
More car problems. Today was supposed to be a big car day but it didn't
work. Charlie, the owner of the Nova, came out to drive the car for
anything we thought might be risky. I shot all of the stunt driving
shots, like when Wesley drives forward and makes a hundred and eighty
degree u-turn. I shot it from about 4 different angles. It looked great.
As long as Charlie was around the Nova ran fine but as soon as he left
the car broke down again. I've been calling him about 5 times a day
and am beginning to feel like an annoyance since he's letting us the
car for free. We were supposed to shoot 6 pages today but only shot
2 ½. That puts us even further behind.
08.17.03
We got up at 5am and drove to Cuero, about an hour trip. We shot the
scene where Maxwell comes into Wesley's jail cell and tells him that
Henry's coming for him. Towards the end of the scene Wesley and Maxwell
fight. I was not sure how this would look but afterwards I was so excited.
Fagan rocks, he's not afraid to take a hard fall or even a punch. I
decided to splurge and shoot a lot of film on this scene, get as many
takes from as many angles as possible. We shot for about 2 hours and
then headed outside. We used the exterior of the jail and the courthouse
located across the street for the scene where Mandy comes to save Wesley.
Beautiful location. I decided to shoot the entire scene in one shot,
PT Anderson style. It would have worked too, if we could have keep the
car running. The shot started with Mandy driving around the courthouse
and parking, she walks across the street to the jail where she sees
Wesley being dragged out. She stops and watches for a second and then
continues onto the front door of the jail, stopping when Maxwell and
Henry walk out. She waits while Maxwell and Henry talk, Henry leaves
and then she talks to Maxwell. Mandy realizes that Maxwell is lying
and races back to the Nova, Maxwell sees the Nova and realizes that
she is with Wesley. Maxwell races after the car as it pulls away. The
shot went great until Mandy was supposed to drive away. She backed out
of the parking spot and the car broke down just as Maxwell raced after
her. We tried it again, same thing. We couldn't get the car to start
for a third shot. Finally I decided to set the camera in the street
and have everyone push the car so it rolled past camera. I had Fagan,
Maxwell, chase after the car, that way it looked as though the car was
actually driving off. After 30 feet or so the car rolled to a stop but
I got what I needed. Next I got a shot of Mandy inside the car, shifting
gears. That way I can cut it so it looks like she backs out, shifts
gears and then drives off. We got this last shot a little after 5pm.
We were supposed to drive back to McFadden and shoot the jail office
scenes but there's no way I can use my original location because it
doesn't match the jail cell, or the exterior of the jail house for that
matter. Also, everyone is dragging ass. It's been over a hundred degrees
everyday I think everyone is beginning to fell the effects of the heat.
We wrapped for the day and I gave everyone the day off tomorrow. Chad
said he'd call his work and see if he could stay longer. He said he
thinks it's a good possibility.
08.18.03
Took the day off. Went swimming. It is ridiculous hot here. The other
day it was 100 degrees in the shade. No lie. At the Café, Mandy's
Store in the movie, there is a thermometer in the shade. It read 103
degrees at around 1:30pm.
08.19.03
We got up early and shot for about 8 ½ hours. We wrapped around
2pm and had a surprise party for Chad, his birthday is tomorrow. Everyone's
been sick and I think it's my turn. I'm not feeling to hot. I met with
Charlie and we talked about the Nova. I wrote a thunderbird into the
script but we couldn't find a thunderbird so I have to rewrite a couple
scenes. There is one scene in particular where Sonny talks passionately
about the car. Charlie described the Nova as follows:
67 Chevy 2, Bucket Seats, Roll cage, tubed out, 350 punched 60 over
motor, 10 ½ to ones, steal crank, aluminum rods, 202 heads, ported
polished, striped dominator intake, 650 holey (carburetor), Double pumper,
4000 stall converter, turbo 350 manual shift , ford 9' with four fifty-sixty
gears, tube chasy with four linked, Mini spool.. it's got no give, that's
why it spins. Coney shocks "67's the only one with a honey comb
grill"
08.20.03
6am
I made a bad decision last night. Everyone was going to Port Lavaca
for Chad's birthday and I decided to go despite being sick and needing
rest. Today I feel horrible. OK, all this time I've been hoping Randy
Moore would come out and help with special effects. He keeps putting
me off, telling me to get back with him in a couple days, so I finally
decided to screw it and do all on my own. I built this air compressor
gun that is supposed to simulate a bullet hit. We'll see what happens.
If that doesn't work I'll have to kill the characters off camera, not
quite as effective but with out bullet hits, what am I going to do?
7:30pm
I made it, I feel even worse than I did this morning, I can hardly talk.
We shot a lot of action stuff today and that helped me stay energized.
We shot the scene where Javier and Sheriff Tanner die. Did not use the
air compressor yet, I'm saving it. I killed sheriff Tanner off camera.
I had camera on Chad (Wesley) when Tanner gets shot. In the scene Wesley
is standing right behind Tanner, Wesley looks down for a brief second
and bang! Tanner gets shot. I had Cody sling fake blood on Chad for
effect. We also shot Butch's death. I positioned Ken (Butch) about twenty
yards from camera. On action Chad ran in between camera and Butch, firing
his gun just before entering frame. So what the audience will see is
a gun flash and then Wesley for a split and the Butch as his body rocks
back and falls to the ground. It worked, great! We started to shoot
the scene where Wesley kills Henry but it got dark. I was so happy because
I wanted a reason to wrap. We'll finish up the scene tomorrow. Chad
mentioned that he's worried we're not going to shoot him out. I'm too
tired to worry about that right now, I'm going to bed.
08.21.03
I slept for 11 hours last night. I feel better and can actually talk.
Call was at 8am. It's almost impossible to shoot exteriors before 9am
here because of the humidity. The DAT won't work because of the moisture.
We finished shooting Henry's death scene and I used the air compressor,
it looked like it worked but it's hard to tell because it happened so
fast. I guess I'll have to wait for post to know for sure as I have
no video playback. We shot the scenes between Wesley, Maxwell, and Sonny.
They looked great. Fagan's a good actor. He says his lines perfectly
with little to no rehearsing and he does it the same each time. We shot
the scene where Wesley is covered in oil; we used a mixture of maple
syrup and BBQ sauce. I only needed a couple shots of Chad, covered,
so I waited until we were almost finished shooting the scene to get
the shots. When the time came, I covered Chad and rolled camera, after
only a few seconds we ran out of film. Jason had to grab the camera
and run inside and change the film out, which takes about 15 minutes.
So for 15 minutes Chad had to stand around, literally covered in a mixture
of BBQ sauce and maple syrup, it was hilarious. Jason came back, I got
the shot, Chad got cleaned up- good fun. We also shot the scene between
Wesley and Sonny where Sonny talks about the Nova. The rewrite seemed
to work. Chad's worried that we're not going to shoot him out, he keeps
bringing it up and I'm beginning to stress. We have to head to Victoria
tomorrow to shoot an office scene that does not even include Chad, that's
going to eat up at least 3 hours. Tomorrow is the only day we can use
the office so I'm stuck.
08.22.03
6:30am
Heading into Victoria for the office scene. I looked over the scenes
that we need to pick up for Chad- I'm in trouble. I've got about 5 different
locations that we need to shoot at for the different pickups/scenes
and if that's not enough I don't even have 3 of the locations. I'm sending
Cody and Matt on a hunt to find a bathroom because the one at the café'
does not match the bathroom in the script. In the script Butch comes
into the bathroom, spots an open window and assumes that Wesley has
taken off. Butch exits, enter Mandy, she looks out the same open window
and Wesley jumps out his hiding place (which in the script he's hiding
in a cabinet). The bathroom at the café has neither a window
nor a cabinet. Finding a bathroom that has a window and a cabinet is
not that tough, the problem is that we have to find a bathroom that
matches the café. Next, I need an office for Sonny and Maxwell.
Ken, who plays Butch, has been really good at finding locations for
us. He's supposed to be in this office scene, but I'll cut him and send
him on the search for an office. Lastly I need a study, not just any
study, but Daniel's study. It should look like a wealthy man's study.
7:30am
We arrived, Jason and Matt are lighting the room. It's perfect, a circular
table with about 7 chairs. I asked Fagan if he had any friends that
wanted to be in the movie that way there'd be no empty chairs. He got
on the phone, made a few calls and within thirty minutes had a couple
people there.
9:15am
We started shooting and ran out of film, Jason's changing out the camera
as I type. Chad just came up to me and told me that he has to be wrapped
by 3pm. I told him to chill out, that I had too much going on and that
he was beginning to stress me out. We'll shoot him out, but he needs
to cool his heels. Cody and Matt returned, they found two bathrooms
that they think will work, great. Which one is the closest, I asked.
There's a deli called Faucetti's just one block up, when I have a second
I'll run over and take a look. Ken returned and said that a lawyer friend
of his, Doug Anderson, has an office across the street and he thinks
it'd work fine for Maxwell and Sonny's office. I mentioned to Walter
and Fagan that I needed a study, Walter said he'd make a few calls.
Here comes Jason with the camera.
11:15am
We wrapped the office and now we're at Doug Anderson's office, it looks
great. Before we headed over here I checked out the bathroom at Faucetti's,
it's awesome. It matches the Café, it's got a large window, big
enough for a person to fit through and the best part is that there is
a door that appears to be part of the wall, a perfect hiding place.
1:00
We rocked out the scene we're Maxwell hands Wesley over to Henry. It
was the definition of pure filmmaking. Because I'd never seen the location
and because we were in a time crunch I had no time to plan how I was
going to shoot the scene, I just dove in as soon as we walked through
the door. I'd tell the actors what to do, shot it, and then move on.
I hope I got everything. I shot about 5 different cutaways just in case.
We hauled ass over to Faucetti's to pickup the bathroom shots. The owner
had originally asked that we come in after they close but I explained
our time situation. They were still open so curious customers keep wandering
in as we were filming. He told us we could film in the bathroom as long
as we did not disrupt the clientele, so our hands were kind of tied.
Finally I had Jason wait outside and hold up traffic. The owner came
over and got a little upset but not before we got our shots. We took
off and now we're on our way to a study that Walter found. I'm starting
to get hungry which I'm sure means everyone else is as well. I have
no money to buy lunch so I hope everyone can hold out until we get back
to the ranch.
2:15 The house that we just shot at is amazing. It's probably over a
hundred years old and has been renovated. The study was perfect; it
looked like a rich man's study. As soon as we arrived the owner of the
house brought out cokes and snacks. Good times, good people. Jason quickly
light the study and we began shooting, but not before I filled up on
gold fish. We're now on our way back out to the Ranch. We have one last
scene to shoot with Chad, the scene where Wesley exit's the Mercantile
and finds Sonny looking over the Nova.
7:00
We wrapped about thirty minutes ago. What a day. We got Chad shot out.
He left us around 4:30. Said he's heading to Fredericksburg to visit
his grandparents and then its back to California. He didn't want to
leave. I don't blame him. This has been a dream come true for all of
us. Having the opportunity to actually do what we really want to do
with our lives instead of waiting tables or working retail has been
a true a blessing and I for one no that I'll miss all of this the second
it's over. We have a late call tomorrow because we start working night
shoots. Fun.
08.23.03
Call was at noon but no one really got moving around until about 1.
We went to Tivoli last night, population 101, and found the only bar,
it's called the Neon Moon. Basically a doublewide trailer that's been
converted into a bar, it had a dance floor and that was good enough
for us. The locals had no idea what had hit them. We took over the jukebox
and the dance floor within twenty minutes of being there. The owner
of the place had installed a disco ball, lights, and all that jazz but
had never really used them because no one ever danced. As soon as we
got there she got excited and light the place up. Anyway, we're trying
to shoot out Chris Cole (Henry) as today is his last.
We shot the scene where Butch and Elvis make the crying
woman sign the land contract. It didn't really look like I had hoped.
I got the shot where Samantha walks up behind Henry and the sun is setting
on the horizon. That looked awesome. Shot the scenes between Javier
and Henry- all quick stuff. Finally it got dark and we headed over to
Virginia's house to shoot the scene where Kenneth Cash dies. We pulled
up, I jumped out of the car and Walter approached me saying that Virginia's
neighbor was ready to call the sheriff because no one knew that we were
going to be there. Craziness. Walter said he'd try to track down Virginia
and get her ok. In the meantime I smoked a cigarette and tried to avoid
the cast and crew as everyone keep asking what was going on. Walter
came back and said no dice, he couldn't get a hold of her. I asked him
if we could shoot the scene at his house, he said yes. I told everyone
what we were doing and then quickly jumped in the car before anyone
could ask me a question. I hate being asked a question when I have no
idea what the answer is. Most people just like to ask questions because
they're worried. I'd say about ninety-ninety percent of the time if
you just stop worrying and be patient the answers will present themselves
long before anyone dies. Anyway, we arrived at Walters and dealt with
the first problem: he has no lights in his yard. The good thing about
Virginia's place is that she has one of those giant florescent lights
out front. Virginia: 1 Walter: 0. So I had about four trucks line up
along the fence, facing the porch (the center piece of the scene) and
then had the drivers turn on the headlights. Jason placed a 500watt
bulb on either side of the porch; I had him use a 250w to light up a
tree in the background. I crossed my fingers as Jason took a reading.
He looked at me and smiled, we're at a 2.8. Great. We had 500 tungsten
film in the camera and normally you'd use an 85 filter to compensate
for the color differences between daylight and tungsten light. The problem
is that you lose 2/3rd stops with the filter so I just left the filter
off, knowing that Carroll (the colorist in Dallas) can fix the color
differences in post. The scene went great. It was Spencer's and Chris'
last scene so they were both on. We also wrapped out Charles Colson
(Sheriff Tanner). I just found out that he's legally blind. That's amazing.
I knew that something was up because I'd give him an eye line and he'd
never look directly at it. I'd have to tell him two or three times before
he got it right. The coolest part is that Charles was really good as
Sheriff Tanner, I'm so happy that he got to work on this. We wrapped
sometime around 3am and headed home.
08.24.03
We shot the scene and between Daniel and Maxwell. It went quick and
then we were on our way home. Wrapped for the day. Fagan and his wife,
Tonya, invited us over for dinner.
08.25.03
Last night at Fagan's was great. He has a beautiful family. I've been
so blessed with the people that I've met on this shoot; Fagan and his
family are no exception. I know I've made a friend for life and will
ask Fagan to be a part of every film that I make. After Fagan's we went
to Cactus Canyon, a country bar in Victoria, and closed it down. At
some point in the night Fagan, myself, and Chris (Elvis) entered a HOT
BUNS contest. The contest went as follows: about ten guys (the contestants)
lined up across the dance floor. Then three blindfolded girls (the judges)
walked by each guy and squeezed his "buns" as they passed.
The girls then voted on which contestant had the HOTTEST BUNS. Well,
Fagan won. He won seventy-five dollars and head full of hot hair. Good
times, good people. Today we went to Rockport and ate at the boiling
pot. Not much else to say, lazy days.
08.26.03
Shot the very first scene of the movie; Between Elvis and Butch, where
Butch shoots the little boy. It looked really cool. Luke Merta, the
little boy, was awesome. He did exactly what I'd tell him and when he
was supposed to get shot, his fall was perfect. Most of the actors have
been shot out and today was mostly just a pickup day. Pretty boring
as things are slowing down. We have a late call tomorrow
08.27.03
Back to a night schedule. Call was not until 1pm. We headed over to
the Café and had lunch. Afterwards we shot the scenes between
the Old Woman and Mandy. Quick and painless. We picked up a few random
shots of Mandy inside and outside of the Café and then headed
back to the ranch. While we waited for it to get dark we decided to
have a race using the golf cart. There is a long gravel road that surrounds
the houses. So basically we just took turns racing around the gravel
road for a time. At some point it was brought up that we should have
a rule that if you chug a beer during your lap you get a point shaved
from your time. It sounded like a fun idea but by the time it got dark
we were all too gone to work. Sooo… we wrapped for the evening.
Just gonna have to pick up that stuff up tomorrow. Long day tomorrow
so I'm heading to bed early.
08.28.03
Last day. It's 6:49am right now and we're heading to the colony creek
golf course to shoot the scene where Daniel tells Sonny about the county
seat being moved. We were supposed to shoot Sonny's death scene last
night but we had a little pre-wrap party that ended the filming. So,
we have to shoot Sonny's death scene tonight. All told it will be a
9-page day. We wrapped up at the golf course and things went relatively
smooth. It was Africa hot. The local news was out interviewing cast
and crew. I know I looked disgusting, covered in sweat. Anyway 2 1/8
pages down. We're off to shoot the scene where we first meet Maxwell.
We've got about 500 feet of film left and about forty minutes of DAT
left. It's gonna be close.
1:15pm We just finished eating lunch, Walter sprung. He asked what we
had planned for lunch and I said nothing. He volunteered to buy - good
people. We're back at Doug Anderson's office now and I'm waiting on
Cody and Matt to return. They had to go and have a reward fax made.
At 2pm we're going to head over to Faucetti's to pickup a shot we missed
last week.
3:15pm
We got the shot were Butch walks into the bathroom. After we had shot
it Ken (Butch) came up to me and said that he did not have his rifle
with him. In that particular shot he's supposed to be carrying a rifle
in order to match the rest of the scene. Oh well, we don't have enough
film to worry about that. Plus, that shot will be so quick that no will
ever notice, and if they do they're not watching the film anyway. Shadows
with hats as my dad always says. We're back at Doug's office now finishing
up the scene between Maxwell and Sonny.
5:15pm
We're heading home to wait darkness. We've shot 6 ½ pages thus
far, 2 ½ to go. The first shot that we'll pickup is the one where
Maxwell is looking at the reward fax in the cab of his truck. Next I'll
shoot Mandy when she is walking on the gravel road. Then we'll move
onto the big scene where Maxwell kills Sonny. We've only got about 250
feet of film left so this should be interesting.
11pm
We're wrapped. I made it with 90 feet of film left. I think I got everything
and I feel really good about today. We're all going to go out and celebrate
a successful month.

We cleaned the ranch houses, everyone wrapped up their equipment, we
said our goodbyes and then headed back home.
